Aloha! I'm Joseph Abad

Graphic design specialist with over 7 years of experience, born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.

My objective as a designer is to design with purpose. It is my responsibility to analyze the problem and choose the most appropriate solution. I believe that design should not look over designed and make the audience’s experience pleasant.

When I’m not deciding between typeface pairings, 9 versus 12 point, or which shade of grey to use, I’ll be enjoying the outdoors. You can find me roaming the streets with a camera squished against my squinting face or working up a sweat by cycling around Diamond Head.

My simple pleasures are a freshly brewed pour over coffee, a cold-cut sandwich, a refreshing pétillant naturel, and sleeping in freshly laundered sheets.

Worked with the sales team to create custom marketing decks for potential accounts, designed point-of-purchase materials for in-store displays, packaging for new products, and social media posts to boost sales and increase brand reach.

Jun 2012 – Feb 2017

Designed various printed materials such as educational pocket guides, textbooks, coloring books, fictional children books, and non-fiction books.

Worked with the publisher and sales team to design a book catalog and one-page sales sheets to increase book sales from educators to small businesses.

Photographed books to use in marketing materials such as book catalogs, sales sheets and website.

Supported the marketing, communications and business development goals of the organization through a visually impactful graphic program while maintaining the brand’s visual identity.

Exercise creative thinking and independent problem solving to produce original pieces of printed and digital work while under the constraints of time and budget. Designed pieces such as, but not limited to, flyers, brochures, rack cards, banners, logos, newsletters, reports, presentations, direct mail pieces, graphics for digital platforms.

Meet with clients to discuss their needs and also their customers to come up with a solution prior to the design process. Imagery, design elements, and information are sourced and used to create various concepts which are presented to the client. Communicated with client throughout the design process to ensure the project is up to or exceeding their expectations and on time. It is a priority that the end-user benefits from the product.
